Summer Vacay Week 1 Wrap-Up

As my last day of work ended for the 2010-2011 school year, my hubby decided to "whisk" the family away to Jackson to celebrate.  I washed up my sticky, stinky, sweaty body, changed clothes, and rested my weary bones on the ride down.  We enjoyed a delicious meal at Outback, dessert at Dairy Queen, and a trip to Kroger to stock up for our Memorial Day Bar-B-Que.

The next morning I rushed out for a much-needed pedicure and enjoyed a nice dip in the pool.

We decided to host our family Memorial Day Bar-B-Que on Sunday and Monday the hubby and I decided to plant some flowers in the empty pots around the pool.

Tuesday was spent with my parents in Jackson at my father's cardiologist's office visit.  He received a good report and is thankfully getting his strength back. Although he is pacemaker dependent,  I prefer to think of him as like a robo-man.  :0)

Wednesday, I got a much-needed color/highlight job done on my hair. (Thanks Kassie!)  Collin and I had gotten our "summer" haircuts the previous week.  (Thanks Jill!)

I picked up this really cute napkin while I was at the beauty shop.  I "repurposed" an old frame by spray painting it black.  I hung it in my dressing room/bathroom.  I think it turned out pretty cute!

My "repurposing" did not end there.  I had this birdhouse that was painted in that "country" style that was popular in the 80's/90's.  It was called "The Wren Inn."  On Thursday, I spray painted it red.  I think it looks pretty good with my new giraffe pillows that I got from Wal-Mart.

I love collecting shells.  I wanted a place for them outside by the pool.  So, I decided to use this cast iron pot to display all of my seashells.  It's actually the same pot that my mother-in-law's housekeeper used to wash their clothes in when she was a little girl.

I used 4 cans of black spray paint during the week.  I decided that all of the framed pics of my kiddos should be black and rehung in the hallway.  I am just about finished.

I have been on a sun tea making roll:

On Friday, I actually cleaned fish for the first time in my almost 40 years of life!  (I couldn't get a picture of this because it was just too gross, but the fresh fried fish were well worth it!)  We ate our first tomato of the summer and the first watermelon of the summer on Saturday! YUM!

Collin and I racked up at Dirt Cheap.  We bought 4 t-shirts, 3 pairs of shoes, 2 skirts, 1 swimskirt, 2 pairs of earrings, and 1 tube of Burt's Bees lip balm all for the grand total of $20.  We had fun digging through all of the stuff.  He was extremely proud of his DUKE t-shirt and his glow-in-the-dark Ghostbusters t-shirt.  Can't wait to go back!

I made a vow to myself to improve my kitchen/cooking skills over the summer.  My goal is to try a new recipe each week.  So, when my hubby bought some fresh blueberries this week,  I found a great recipe at www.allrecipes.com for blueberry muffins.  The muffins were so fabulous that I have made this recipe twice!

Well, I guess that about takes you through the first week of my summer vacation.  I hope your summer is going as great as mine is!
